Meet our Staff

Casey
Licensed Veterinary Technician

​Casey is a 2004 graduate of the Wayne State University Veterinary Technology program.  She has a special interest in the dental care of the patients.  In addition to her dog (Killian) and a diamond dove, she also has two cats: Pooka, and Stubb Nubbs (a special needs cat with no back feet!).  Her hobbies include spending time with her adorable son Logan, sewing, crafts, and roller derby.

Katie
Licensed Veterinary Technician

Katie is one of our LVT's. Another graduate from the Wayne State University Veterinary Technology program. She assists in many healthcare aspects when your pet visits our hospital, including wellness care and surgical procedures. 

Molly
Licensed Veterinary Technician

​Molly is a 2012 graduate of the Wayne County Community College Veterinary Technology program.  She  attended canine rehabilitation classes through the Canine Rehabilitation Institute (CRI) and is a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Assistant.  She and her husband have a love for dogs and currently have seven furry "kids" as family members.  In her spare time she likes to garden and attend dogs shows.

Sandra
​Licensed Veterinary Technician

Sandra is a 2008 graduate of Wayne State University's Veterinary Technology program and received her license the same year.
​She has been at SAH for 5 years and enjoys working with all of the animals. If your pet has recently had a dental cleaning, its likely Sandra has been involved!  When she's not working , She enjoys physical fitness, working on art projects and when the weather is nice, boating.  Sandra also loves to spend time with her 3 cats, her new puppy and  her bearded dragon, Pete!
 

Sara
Licensed Veterinary Technician

Sara is a 2011 graduate of the Wayne State University Veterinary Technology program, where she earned her associates in Applied Science, and license in Veterinary Technology.​ Sara joined our team in 2014.   When she's not caring for your fur babies (or feathered/scaled babies, etc.) she enjoys crafting and spending time with her sweet human babies, a 3 year old boy and newborn baby girl.  Sara has many pets of her own, all of which are rescues.

Monica
​Lead Technician

​Monica has been with the practice since 1998!  Monica is our inventory guru, stocking all the products that keep this hospital running!  Her favorite activity here, besides loving on the pets, is stocking the retail area.  She enjoys the "hunt" for hard-to-find items.  Monica has two grown children and three grandchildren, whom she spends all of her free time with.   At her house you can expect to be greeted by her sweet, demanding dogs and the foster dog or cat that needs her care now!

Technician

​​​Debby has been working with us here at Southgate Animal Hospital since 2000. She has a special talent for working with the exotic pets that we treat and educating clients about the care that they require.  She has a Quaker bird and is known here as our bird expert!  Debby enjoys spending free time with her husband and traveling.

Melanie
​Technician
Since Melanie was young, she had a passion for saving animals. Fostering, helping strays on the street, and even working as a dog trainer led her to where she is now. The day-to-day interaction with all the furry, feathery, and scaly babies that come her way is what she enjoys! In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her two young sons. She also is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys fishing, hunting, and helping out on her parents’ farm. 

Brianna
Veterinary Assistant

Brianna has been with us since 2018.  She started he as kennel staff and loves working with animals so much, she became a veterinary assistant.  Brianna most enjoys seeing all of the animals, especially reptiles.  When she's not here she is spending time with her 4 pets (a dog , a cat, a snake and a lizard!) and playing roller derby.

Kirstin
Veterinary Assistant

​Kirstin joined our team officially in 2013. However, being the eldest daughter of the Drs. Cook, she spent her life observing her parents in action.   Through the years, her love for animals grew and eventually she began working as a kennel assistant here. Currently, Kirstin has been trained as veterinary assistant and receptionist.
She is a recent graduate from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. In her spare time, Kirstin enjoys drawing (specifically animals and mythological creatures) and pursuing her passion for art.

Kayla has had an interest in animals for as long as she can remember, and has spent well over a decade doing animal rescue and foster care. The very best part of working at SAH for her is meeting all the animals and learning new things every day. In her down time,  she enjoys reading horror novels and watching horror movies with her fiancé.

​Lead Receptionist

​Lori has been a veterinary receptionist since 1992.  She has many other responsibilities in addition to helping with the receptionist desk, but her favorite part of working at SAH is  talking with clients about their pets. Lori's favorite pastimes are going to the zoo / conservatory, aquarium, and spending time with her many cats!

Cheryl
Receptionist

​Cheryl has worked at Southgate Animal Hospital since 2005. She performs a wide range of clerical and organizational duties that are essential to keep the hospital running smoothly. Cheryl and her family share a love of  animals, including her two dogs a min- pin(Zip)  and cattle dog(Griffin), and a gecko (Beans) .  Her hobbies include doing just about anything with her kids and grandkids, gardening, being outdoors (except in the winter) and traveling.  "I love working at this hospital, the doctors are wonderful people who are very passionate about what they do everyday"

Lori Ann
​Receptionist

Lori Ann joined our team in 2018.  She has been in the veterinary field for 19 years.  She loves everything about working at the hospital, her colleagues, our clients and especially their pets! Outside of here she enjoys spending time with her family  (four children and one granddaughter).  LoriAnn is also mama to 6 dogs, a guinea pig and a gecko!

​Receptionist

​Rita joined our team in 2006. She is passionate about her job but loves the clients and their pets even more!!  Rita enjoys the opportunity to educate the clients on various aspects of animal ownership and to be an advocate for the animals.  In her free time, she enjoys gardening and spending time with her grandchildren

Sheri
​Kennel Supervisor

​Sheri joined our team in October 2014. She has a special love for animals, especially  Boston Terriers and French Bulldogs. Sheri enjoys spending individual time with our boarders to make them feel at home. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and dogs.

Jessica
​Kennel Staff/ Technician 
Assistant

Jessica joined our team in January 2020. She is new to the veterinary  field, but is not new to caring for animals!  Growing up she volunteered for many  rescue organizations,  that is where she discovered her love for animals. Her future goal is to become an animal control officer or  Marine Biologist. She loves anything that involves arts and crafts or rescuing animals.    She has a Yellow Labrador  named Goldie and a Pitbull named Jake. Jessica's favorite dog breeds are Beagles, Labradors and Pitbulls.  As kennel assistant, she loves caring for the animals! She strives to make every visit an enjoyable one- "full of tail wags, purrs and love". In her free time,  Jessica loves photography, spending time with her family, spoiling her dogs and going to church!

Kristina
Kennel Staff

Kristina has been with us for 1.5 years, her favorite part of being here is her co-workers!  When she's not here, she enjoys reading, movies and spending time with her friends and family.  Kristina has 10 pets! (2 dogs, 1 cat, 2 gerbils, 2 guinea pigs, 2 dwarf hamsters, and a Syrian hamster).

Madisyn
Kennel Staff/Technician Assistant

 Madisyn has always loved animals and has a dream to be a veternarian. She has a German Shepherd that she adores! In her free time she likes going on dog walks, hanging out with friends, and traveling somewhere new! She says her favorite part about being at SAH is seeing all the different animals and learning about them.  

Miranda
​Kennel Staff

Miranda joined our team in July 2017.  Her love for animals is endless. She has 3 dogs, 1 cat, 2 ferrets and a guinea pig!  Her favorite part of working at SAH is seeing all of the patients. She loves to comfort them and make them feel "at home", she makes sure they  feel a great sense of understanding, importance and love.  She likes to spend her free time  with her friends, family and pets.  She also enjoys  writing poetry, singing and loves to clean and organize.

Sara is the youngest daughter of the Drs. Cook.  She is currently enrolled at MSU exploring her opportunities.  She always shares her time on breaks with us helping out in a variety of roles.
